I knew I had my hands full when you CAME into my life,
But little did I know it would NOT be full of strife.

As a pup, you REALLY liked the times we spent together
And you excelled in all I asked, STRIVING to be better.

Your mentor AND best friend was oh-so-handsome Teddy
Who raised you right and TAUGHT you what you needed to be ready.

Little did you know that you TAUGHT him how to play
Something he did NOT do, much to my dismay.

It was so HARD at Teddy's end and I know you understood
As I saw you try to comfort him AS you knew you should.

You became the FEARLESS girl who ARI thought was great
And so he taught you ALL he knew before he made the break.

He passed the torch to you and you GLADLY took the lead,
When you learned all you needed to AND you were up to speed.

He taught you all the GOOD things. like how to bite real hard
And along the way he taught you the SECRETS of the yard.

He showed you TRAILS along the fence and those behind the woods
And also where the CRITTERS were and where to hide the goods.

Your name got LONGER with the letters you didn't understand
But what we did together, you surely knew was grand.

After your GUYS left you, the girls were who remained
but shortly Jake came on the scene to help you play the game.

He was a HOOT and so much fun, you thought that he was yours
The cutest little puppy you had ever seen, for SURE.

He was your brother, yes he was,and LOOKED a lot like you
Which WAS how your mother looked surely through and through.

We went EVERYWHERE together, the three of us we did
And YOU loved the training to compete, just YOU and the kid.

So then the WORST of all occurred and SURGERY you needed
To fix arthritis in your back so you could WALK unheeded.

It put an END to competition but able to play you could
So playing and hanging in the yard became oh, SO good.

I saw the trails along the fence and KNEW that they were yours
And knew that our 3 acres was definitely secure.

You traveled then with Jake while he put LETTERS by his name
And sometimes YOU took part in the EASIEST of the games.

The highlight of the trips we took was to visit FAMILY
And you were so engaged that it WAS a sight to see.

You loved the water in the POOL and also in the STREAM
But jumping from the dock was ALMOST like a dream.

You seemed to be the HEALTHIEST of all the ones before
But eventually it was HARD to rise up from the floor.

And then the day arrived when you could barely walk
And so with tears in eyes we had our goodbye talk.

Teddy was there to help you cross, as were all the rest
So I knew you were safe with them because they are the best.
